Michael T. Stewart joined the law firm of Caruso Pope Edell Picini from the Corporate Finance and Real Estate practice groups of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney. He concentrates his practice in the areas of corporate law and real estate. He has had significant experience in international business transactions including export regulations. He was an attorney with Klett Rooney Lieber & Schorling when it merged with Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney in 2006.

Mr. Stewart joined Klett Rooney, together with Steven Peri, from the firm of Peri & Stewart, L.L.C., which offered transactional and litigation services for corporations and other entities, with special attention to foreign-owned businesses seeking to establish, maintain or expand their presence in the U.S. Prior to his co-founding of the Peri & Stewart, L.L.C. law firm he was an associate from 1986 to 1990 at the Short Hills, NJ law firm of Budd Larner Gross Picillo Rosenbaum Greenberg & Sade. From 1985 – 1986, he was Law Clerk to the Hon. Richard Newman, J.S.C.

Representative Transactions:

  • Numerous stock and asset acquisitions of U.S. companies by U.S. and non-U.S. companies in various industries including technology and manufacturing.
  • Assist non-U.S. companies establishing and expansion of subsidiaries in the United States.
  • Counsel companies in the selection and structuring of distribution methods.
  • Assist U.S. companies with acquisition of non-U.S. assets/companies.
  • Export regulatory analysis and assistance to U.S. companies exporting to various countries, including Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Jordan, Singapore and China.
  • Evaluation of and assistance with Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and boycott issues.
  • Assisting clients in obtaining approval of transactions from U.S. government agencies.

Mr. Stewart is admitted to practice law in the state and federal courts of New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of International Trade.

Mr. Stewart is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce. He is also a Board member of the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce (Philadelphia) and a member of the American Scandinavian Foundation. Mr. Stewart also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross, Northern New Jersey Chapter. He is active with the Alumni Schools Committee of the University of Chicago.

Mr. Stewart is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and earned his A.B. degree from the University of Chicago.
